About

boys, blokes, books and bytes promotes reading. It is a project of the Centre for Youth Literature, State Library of Victoria in partnership with the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development.

BBBB proposes a partnership approach to reading for pleasure. Boys, schools, public libraries and families participate in enjoyable and relevant activities for boys.

In 2006 and 2007 the Centre for Youth Literature ran pilot programs in schools in Melton and Drouin. In 2008, a toolkit for teachers and librarians was produced, based on the findings and experience gained from the pilot programs (and the CYL’s previous experience in the promotion of reading). A number of writers have helped develop the boys, blokes, books and bytes program. David Metzenthen, Scot Gardner, Michael Wagner, Archie Fusillo, Paul Daffey, John Weldon and Glen Manton have contributed creatively to the project. Ix Adams also worked with boys and blokes in storytelling and improvisation sessions.
